Randomized Hamiltonian simulation protocols such as qDRIFT are known to be able to outperform their deterministic cousins in some cases, such as when Hamiltonians with many local terms. We will discuss limitations on these protocols and the benefits of running them in an adaptive way that can take advantage of information about the initial state.
