Probing thermalization phenomena with a 40-spin cluster in diamond

08/16/2024, 10:00am-10:40am

Nuclear spins in diamond offer a unique platform to study many-body phenomena, as they are well-isolated from environmental noise and have long coherence times. They are coupled via dipole-dipole interactions and can be accessed through a Nitrogen-Vacancy center in their proximity.
In this talk, we explore our toolbox to read-out and control 40 individual 13C-spins in diamond and engineer their Hamiltonian. We discuss novel phases of matter, such as a discrete time crystal, and investigate thermalization mechanisms in open 3D systems.
